Steve Jobs Exclusive Biography by Walter Isaacson - Order your copy now

If you have been following Steve Jobs, then you would be happy to know that the exclusive biography of Late Genius Mr. Steve Jobs is now available at most of the book store you know.  This exclusive biography written by Walter Isaacson.

About Steve Jobs Biography:

This exclusive biography is based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues.  Walter Isaacson has collected moments of Steve Jobs roller-coaster life.  Personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized mobile and computing industry couldn’t be worded any better.

You will be surprised to know that although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.

Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple’s hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.

It is true that as the technology progresses we start relying on technology even more. Before we used to memorize everything, now we just Google it. Earlier we used to do the calculations orally or on paper, now we use Scientific calculators or our iPhone or Android. Let’s find out how this technology or rather Google has affected our memory.

What is Min.us or Minus.com?

When you sign-up at Minus, you get a huge 10GB of Free space and with every friend you get to join Minus earns you 1GB extra each up to 50GB max.  So essentially you have plenty of space for almost everything you want to save and share in the cloud.

[caption id=”attachment_2530” align=”aligncenter” width=”500” caption=”Get 10GB FREE Space”][/caption]

Minus apps are available for almost everything - Desktop (Windows, Mac and Linux), Mobile (Android and iPhone) and browsers (Chrome and Firefox).  So there is almost every possibility that whatever hardware you are using, you can save and share your files using Minus.

[caption id=”attachment_2531” align=”aligncenter” width=”500” caption=”Minus Tools”][/caption]

So what are you thinking…[button link=”http://min.us/rmYvbG0” color=”aqua” window=”yes”]Get 10GB Now with Minus[/button]
Interview : Min.us Co-Founder - John Xie

Now below are some question we asked John Xie, Co-Founder of Minus:

How did you come up with the name “Minus”?  Why not Plus or something?
We started out with the name Min.us with the whole idea of Minus being less is more and our focus on minimalism in the user interface and design. Simple and minimal sharing.
What is the one reason for creating Minus?  How Minus is different from other similar services like DropBox, SugarSync and all?
Our goal is to create a universal sharing experience for users across different devices and platforms using Minus. The difference for Minus is the focus on sharing and publishing using Minus.
How would you consider your experience as a Minus Founder? What tips you would like to give to other would be entrepreneurs?
One of the biggest lessons learned is to listen to your users, especially the early adopters as they will give you very valuable advice, tips and suggestions for your product or service. We couldn’t have made it to where we are today without the support of our users.
What is your favorite platform for developing app - Android, iOS, Blackberry, Windows, Linux or Mac etc.  Why?
Our focus has been on the web and browser itself. Both Firefox and Google Chrome are pushing the boundaries and we believe there will be even faster development in the web frontend. We’ll continue to create a simple and unifying experience across all platforms however.
What is one thing Minus does RIGHT but not other similar services?
A simple and minimal sharing experience.
What are the future improvements/features you plan on providing to Minus user?
We have many features and improvements planned and are doing our best to prioritize these tasks. See http://feedback.minus.com for some of the user requested features.
Any motivating quote/idea that keeps you going?
To innovate and keep pushing the boundaries in order to create a simple and universal sharing platform :)
I am personally very impressed with Minus being available at almost every platform.  And that make life so much easy, because now you can just upload everything to Minus and “Minus your file burden”.  I would strongly recommend Min.us to anyone looking for huge online space.

Remotely Access & Control Computers from anywhere using Android

About a year back I introduced you to TeamViewer remote access app for iPhone and Desktop.  Now the same awesomeness is available for Android too.  TeamViewer for Android is now available in Android Market for all devices with Android 1.6 and up including Honeycomb tablets.

With TeamViewer, similar to iPhone app, you can remotely control your computer for free from anywhere, anytime!  Now you can easily support friends and family when they have computer problems - no matter where you are. You can also use this app to gain access to your home computer to edit documents or use particular software while you are on the road.  (You need to obviously password protect it.)

Other Features of TeamViewer in general are as follows:

 • TeamViewer works for Windows, Mac and Linux
 • Quickly assist family members and friends with their computer problems
 • Access your private computer(s) when you are on the road
 • Conveniently control remote computers using the multi-touch gestures: left click, right click, drag & drop, scroll wheel, zoom on your phone or tablet.
 • Complete keyboard control including special keys such as Ctrl, Alt, Windows
 • TeamViewer claims it to meet highest security standards: 256 Bit AES Session Encoding, 1024 Bit RSA Key Exchange
 • Effortlessly access computers behind firewalls and proxy servers
 • Automatic quality adjustment
 • Remotely reboot the computer
 • Overview of friends and computers that are online - via the integrated computer list
 • As I said earlier, it Is available for Android 1.6+ including Honeycomb tablets

To download the app, use the following link or search for TeamViewer in Android Market.

TeamViewer Free for Android on AppBrain

This app comes in very handy when you are out somewhere and you realize that forgot something in the home computer.  Now with TeamViewer you can actually email it to you and access your home computer from anywhere as if you are virtually there near your computer.  Though, you will have to have TeamViewer installed on your home computer too.

If you want to be able to wake up or reboot your computer remotely, you will have to give some extra permissions.  Which is in fact to make sure no one else get access to your computer without your permission.

Check it out, I am sure you are going to like it.  Let me know how you plan on using it.  Have any crazy ideas to make it useful for you.  Share with all of us.

iOS 5 Brings 200+ New Features, Copies Android Notification System

Apple introduced iOS5 to the masses today at WWDC 2011 with 200+ new features and some really key changes to iOS.  These changes to the iOS are applicable to iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod 3rd and 4th generations, original iPad and iPad 2.

Some of the major changes and/or notable features are as follows:

1. Notification system:

Everyone knows how much iOS notification sucks.  With iOS5 Apples brings a better and completely overhauled notification system.  But apparently completely copies Android notification system.  There is a pull down menu which now shows all your notifications.  Pick the one you want to interact or just read them later.  All your alerts.  All in one place.

2. iMessage:

iMessage is a new messaging service for all iOS5 users from Apple. All iOS5 users can now send and receive unlimited messages using 3G, 4G or Wifi on any of iOS5 devices. iMessage will let you share text, photo, video, location and contacts with other iOS users.  It will even allow group messaging.

3. iCloud and Wifi Sync:

With iOS5, Apple finally cuts the cord and allows everything to be in sync with iCloud.  Now you don’t need to own a computer to own an iPad, iPhone or iPod.  Activate and set up your device right out of the box.  One of the other features Android users have been enjoying since its inception.  But iOS5 finally brings it to it multi-million user base.  You can also sync your iDevices to PC or Mac over a share wifi connection.

4. Newsstand:

Read all about it. All in one place. iOS 5 organizes magazine and newspaper app subscriptions in a folder called - Newsstand.  There’s also a new place on the App Store just for newspaper and magazine subscriptions. New purchases go directly to your Newsstand folder. Then, as new issues become available, Newsstand automatically updates them in the background.

5. Reminders:

Reminders lets you organize your to-do list — complete with due dates and locations. This is one of the great feature and not yet available on Android. Say you need to remember to pick up milk during your next grocery trip. Since Reminders can be location based, you’ll get an alert as soon as you pull into the supermarket parking lot.  Really useful feature if you remember to keep your to do list up to date.

I am not sure though it is going to select a specific location or the category of location.  For example, the milk you can pick up from Meijer, Kroger or Walmart or somewhere else.  It will be interesting to see if it recognizes the category of location.  Then it will be really awesome.

6. Easier access to Camera app:

iOS5 will provide an option to launch Camera even when the screen is locked so that it is easier to capture those special moments.  To take a picture you will be able to use the volume button instead of the soft touch on the screen.

7.  Tighter Twitter integration:

iOS5 brings really tight integration with Twitter throughout the OS.  Sign in once in Settings, and suddenly you can tweet directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, or Maps. You can even add a location to any tweet, no matter which app you’re tweeting from.

I wonder why it didn’t pick Facebook instead.  Facebook integration would have actually made it a really favorable solution for lot of users.  As lot of users still don’t use Twitter as their choice of communication medium with friends.

8.  Safari Browser Updates:

Safari browser also got some major overhaul which includes tabbed browsing on iPad, Reading list (kind of Instapaper, Read it Later) and some other speed improvements.  To learn about all the new features in details please check out this page at Apple.

Among other major updates are text formatting options in Mail application, Split keyboard for iPad, AirPlay mirroring for iPad 2, improvements to Photo editing and many other small updates.  I am sure everyone using iDevices will welcome all these changes to their beloved iOS.

iOS5 will be available to all users sometime in this fall and as mentioned earlier will support iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod 3rd and 4th generations, original iPad and iPad 2.  Let us know which feature you are most excited about.  And if there is any other feature you were expecting from Apple as an update to iOS.

Socialcam : Mobile Video Sharing Well done

Socialcam, a new service from Justin.tv targeted towards smartphone users is something I would call as “Mobile Video Sharing Well done…”  Why?? Here is what it can do:

Socialcam is the easiest way to share videos with friends. With a few clicks you’re able to record, tag and share videos as well as browse, like, and comment on your friends’ videos.

Some of Socialcam’s features:
- Unlimited video length and storage
- Automatic streaming video upload
- Tag your Facebook friends in videos just like you do the photos.
- Instant notification when you’re tagged in a video
- Browse, like, comment on your friends’ videos
- Share videos with Facebook, Twitter, Email and SMS

How else you want to share the video capture with your Android or iPhone?  Socialcam is available for both iPhone and Android.  Here is the launch video:

Socialcam Launch Video

Essentially, after installing the app (iOS or Android), you login using your Facebook account.  If you recorded a video with some of your friends in it, when you upload the video to the Socialcam you can tag them as being in the video, much in the way  you can do on Facebook with photos. The video, then, will automatically be posted on your friends’ Wall – This is what I call as flawless Facebook integration.

If you are a fan of video recording and then sharing on Facebook, then go ahead and install it on your iPhone or Android devices.  Let me know in comments if you like it.  You may also want to check out other live streaming apps.
